The test assesses your ability, as a doctor, to work safely as a senior house officer (SHO) in a UK NHS hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The doctors who are successful in the exam will be interviewed at some distance, and those who are successful will be entitled to start specialization training.<\/p>\n<p>GMC (General Medical Council) independent regulator for doctors in the UK.\u00a0 GMC\u2019s role is to\u00a0protect patients and improve medical education and practice across the UK. Their responsibilities in relation to the medical education, registration and revalidation of doctors; and for giving guidance to doctors on matters of professional conduct, performance and ethics.<\/p>\n<p>Before applying for the PLAB exam, you must open an account on the GMC website and report that your English proficiency is acceptable.<\/p>\n<p>The PLAB exam is intended to measure the knowledge of medical English terms of experts and there are two parts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Part 1: Following a review, the number of questions contained in the PLAB Part 1 exam (UK and overseas) is being reduced from 200 single best answer questions to 180. This will be effective from the June 2018 PLAB Part 1 exam onwards.<\/li>\n<li>Part 2: Comprises 18 scenarios, each lasting eight minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can apply for a license in the UK by passing both stages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLAB Exam and English Proficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>OET certificate as English language proficiency for the PLAB exam. OET Exam consists of four stages; Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You can apply for the PLAB exam if you get at least B grade from each stage. OET B grade is equals IELTS 7.0 grade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OET is the English language test designed for the healthcare sector and test materials reflects real workplace scenarios. Continuous research ensures test content and structure reflects current healthcare workplace scenarios and the changing needs of the sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>OET grades are valid for two years. If you are taking the\u00a0PLAB\u00a0test, your certificate must be valid on the day you sit PLAB part 1. If you are applying for registration with a license to practice, your grades must be valid when we approve your application.<\/p>\n<p>If you achieved minimum grades more than two years ago, and the certificate meets all of our other criteria, you can still demonstrate your have kept your English skills are up to date. You can do this by giving us your OET candidate number and a\u00a0reference from a tutor or lecturer of a postgraduate course\u00a0or from an employer who is based in a country where\u00a0English is the first and native language. The reference must cover at least three months full-time study or employment within the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>Please note the OET may not be acceptable evidence of your English language skills for the purposes of obtaining a UK visa. You will need to check with\u00a0UK Visa and Immigration\u00a0for their requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates can sign up to their GMC online account if their PLAB part 1. registration process requires valid OET points. If the OET has chosen to enter your results, it must ensure that it has chosen the General Medical Council as the recognition body on the myOET portal so that it can verify its scores.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the PLAB exam?
